NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, highlighted the importance of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. He strongly opposed the spread of false information about Sanatan Dharma, Maa Ganga, and India.
He pointed out that over 56.25 crore devotees had already taken a holy dip in Prayagraj. "When false allegations and fake videos are spread against Sanatan Dharma, Maa Ganga, India, or the Maha Kumbh, it is like insulting the faith of these 56 crore people," he said.
Maha Kumbh Belongs to Society, Not Politics
Yogi Adityanath made it clear that the Maha Kumbh is a festival for everyone, not just one political group. He rejected claims that any particular party or organization controls the event.
"This event is for society. The government only plays a supportive role to fulfill its responsibilities. We are lucky that our government got a chance to be a part of this great event. The whole country and the world have taken Maha Kumbh to new heights, ignoring all negative campaigns," he stated.
Condolences for Stampede Victims
Speaking about the stampede incidents, the CM expressed his deep sorrow for the victims and their families. However, he criticized those trying to use these tragedies for political gain.
With only a week of Maha Kumbh are left, and already more than 56 crore devotees have participated. We are deeply sorry for those who lost their lives in the stampede on January 29 and in road accidents while traveling for Kumbh. The government stands with their families and will provide all possible help. But is it right to politicize such a tragedy?" he questioned.
Opposition Criticized for Lack of Support
Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) and other opposition parties of being against the Maha Kumbh. He mentioned that in the previous Assembly session, when discussions about festival preparations were taking place, the opposition refused to cooperate.
"The SP National President even questioned why money should be spent on Maha Kumbh. Their social media accounts used insulting language. Lalu Yadav called the Kumbh 'useless' (Faltu), while another SP leader referred to it as 'Mrityu Kumbh' (Death Kumbh). Leaders from the Congress, SP, RJD, and TMC made careless remarks.
If celebrating Sanatan Dharma is considered a crime, then our government will continue to 'commit' that crime," Yogi Adityanath said.
