Johnny Depp to direct Amedeo Modigliani’s biopic ‘Modi'

Johnny Depp will be returning to his directing forte by working on his upcoming project Modi. This will be his second film as director since ‘The Brave’ and is based on the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani’s life story.

He was called Modi by his peers and that is the reason the movie’s title is also the same.

The Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio is cast as the lead actor in the film and the French star Pierre Niney is going to play the part of Maurice Utrillo, while Al Pacino has accepted the role of Maurice Gangnat, who was an art collector.

The shooting for the film will begin in the autumn in Bupadest, Hungary. The film will rightfully showcase a series of events that occurred in 1916 in Modigliani’s life.

The film is inspired by the play Modigliani by Dennis McIntyre, which was written by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. Amedeo was born into an Italian-Jewish family and shifted to Paris in 1906. The movie will highlight the 48 hours that changed the artist’s life while he was on the run from the police, trying to escape from the city and choosing on ending his career.

Depp will be making a comeback in movies after three years through Jeanne du Barry, which is going to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on the 16th of May.

He will be seen playing the part of Louis XV and is cast opposite Maïwenn in the French drama.
