Brazil mourning for 'King of Football' Pele, Last rites will take place at Santos

Legendary football player Pele succumbed to cancer at the age of 82. The stadium were the king of football played his best of the matches will host his funeral on Jan 2 and 3rd.

The public would be able to pay last respects to the three time World Champion at the Vila Belmiro stadium said Santos Pele’s former club in Brazil.

The statement mentioned that the coffin carrying the soccer king would leave Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo early Monday morning and be placed in the fields centre circle.

His burial will take place in prescence of family only at the Memorial Necropole Ecumencia, a vertical cemetery in Santos. His casket will be passed in front of his home for his ailing mother 100 years old, Celeste to pay him last respects.

Pele died due to multiple organ failure resulting as a progression of colon cancer, a statement by the hospital said.

The icnoic football player regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, the only player to have won the FIFA world cup thrice was hospitalized last week after his heatlh deteriorated.

Born in 1940, Pele was originally named Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He was undrgoing a chemotheraphy and had stopped responding to the treatment and so was shifted to palliative care.

He cheered his Brazil on Television in their last match at FIFA World Cup. A tumour from his colon was removed in 2021 and was taking chemo ever since.

Pele is survived by 7 kids from his three wives and his mother who is 100 years now.
