Why Did Dwayne Johnson Leave the WWE and Stop Referring to Himself as The Rock?

Here is why Dwayne Johnson quit the WWE in 2004 once his contract expired and also stopped mentioning his name as the rock.

Without a doubt, one of the most well-known personalities on the planet is Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson, who gained widespread recognition after his tenure in the WWE.

The Rock made his WWE debut in 1996, and up until the end of his contract in 2004, he was one of the company’s biggest performers.

It became evident towards the end of The Rock’s tenure with WWE that Hollywood was interested in him.

The Rock had been in his first film by the year 2001, and it was likely that he would leave WWE for good sooner rather than later.

Bruce Prichard stated in 2020 that Vince McMahon intended to keep the top star bound to a contract and that he didn’t want The Rock to go. Rock’s contract, however, abruptly expired in 2004, and he left the company. He did not return until 2007.

The narrative is noteworthy, though, considering rumors and conjecture at the time suggested that Rock simply departed WWE because they neglected to renew his contract.

The fact that The Rock’s contract just expired is a pretty humorous story. However, whatever happened during that time, he doesn’t think it was to separate himself from the WWE or wrestling, as he has mentioned several times that he appreciates the time he spent there.
