Imphal: The death toll due to a landslide at a railway construction site in Manipur's Noni district rose to 10 on Friday. Two more bodies were recovered from the debris in the early hours of Friday. Officials have given information in this regard. The landslide took place on Wednesday night at the Tupul Yard railway construction camp.  

The officials have informed that the search and rescue operation is being carried out by the Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). About 55 people are still reported missing. A total of eight bodies, including 7 personnel of the Territorial Army, were recovered from the spot till Thursday. An official said, "The bodies of two more territorial army personnel were recovered during the search operation in the morning. Rescue operations are on in full swing even amid inclement weather with the additional cooperation of NDRF, Assam Rifles, District Police, Indian Red Cross Society, local volunteers and others.'' He said so far 13 territorial army personnel and five civilians have been rescued.  

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of eastern command Lt Gen R.P. Kalita met the injured Territorial Army personnel, who were admitted to the Limakong Military Hospital on Thursday. However, his treatment is now continuing at the Assam Rifles hospital in Mantripukhari. CM N Biren Singh has announced a compensation of five lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives and 50 thousand rupees each to the injured. Manipur Governor L. Ganesan has also expressed grief over the incident.
