Dholpur: On the festival of charity and virtue, Makar Sankranti, women received merit by donating twelve kinds of items including sesame mixed food and suhag material on the temples of Dholpur in Rajasthan. The women, while visiting the Markandey temple, donated and wished for longevity of their family members.
A huge Bhandara for cows was organised at the Hanumanji temple in the city of Talaiya on Makar Sankranti Festival. Devotees make ten quintals of sesame mixed laddu for cows in the temple complex. Devotees worship cows in the temple complex and feed the cows. Devotees handed over a mini truck packed with ladoos to Dholpur Nagar Parishad Commissioner Saurabh Jindal for cowsheds. The devotees then fed the cows of the entire city.
It is recognised that on this day the sun transitions to Capricorn and Uttarayan begins. Uttarayan is regarded as a symbol of positivity. The change of sun on Makar Sankranti represents the move from darkness to light. The higher the light increases the consciousness and manpower of the creatures, so people all over India worship the sun in various forms on this occasion.
