Chennai: Rain continues to wreak havoc in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is still expected in Chennai and adjoining areas. A red alert has been sounded in 20 districts of the state. The MET department has informed that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Thiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet and Tiruputra districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is likely to occur in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Chengapaltu, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Chennai and parts of Union Territory of Puducherry in Tamil Nadu. Several flights have also been cancelled due to heavy rains.

Talking about the coming 24 hours, Chennai, Tirwaluras Kanjeevaram and Ranipet districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, said S Balachandran, DDG, Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai. He said that as far as Chennai is concerned, the rains will continue and heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at some places. The MET department has said that the rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh may subside in the next two days as the pressure has come to the ground and will gradually weaken. The department said rain activity will be more in Andhra Pradesh today.

The MET department said that the low-pressure area is expected to pass through the coast of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on the evening of November 12. Due to this weather trend, large parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive rainfall for the next three to four days. It is located 430 km east-southeast of Chennai and 420 km east-southeast of Puducherry, the MET department said. In Tamil Nadu, 11 teams of NDRF have been deployed for saving and rescue operations.
