New Delhi: On the first day of the winter session of Parliament, 12 members of the Upper House were suspended for creating ruckus and chaos. The Opposition is opposing this from Parliament to the streets. Leaders of opposition parties on Thursday also protested against the suspension of MPs by wearing a black belt in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, which has been expressed displeasure by Upper House Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.
M Venkaiah Naidu said this is not the first time that the suspension of MPs has taken place in the House. He said that from 1962 to 2010, there have been 11 occasions when members have been suspended. Were all those Governments undemocratic? Naidu said some respected leaders and members of the House have, at their discretion, termed the suspension of 12 members as "undemocratic". I kept trying to understand whether what the uproar in the House meant. He said those who described the suspension as "undemocratic" are not even talking about the reason for that suspension.
Naidu further said, "You don't want to regret what you have done, but you are talking about repealing the decision of this House as per the procedure laid down under the Rules of the House. He said, "The Deputy Chairman has requested both sides to talk about it and take necessary steps to move forward in the normal proceedings of the House. I appeal to both sides of this honoured House to talk about it and allow the House to do its essential work. ”
