114 SC-ST professors wrote to the President on violence Post-election Bengal violence; says '11000 people became homeless'

Kolkata: 114 professors belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) category have written to President Ram Nath Kovind in connection with the violence that erupted after the Assembly elections in West Bengal. The letter appealed for action against the Trinamool Congress. Journalist Rohan Dua shared the letter on Twitter. According to the letter, the violence in the state after the assembly elections has left 11,000 people homeless. Most of them belong to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

According to the letter, 40,000 people were affected in the violence and 1627 barbaric attacks were recorded. The letter says that more than 5000 houses were burnt during the violence. At the same time, 26 people were also killed. Thereafter, more than 2000 people had to take shelter in Assam, Jharkhand and Odisha. According to the letter, TMC activists along with the state police not only severely oppressed the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes during that time but also incited violence there, killed people, raped women and occupied the land. So, he wants the matter to be intervened to save the SC/ST community.

At the same time, the letter says that the houses of those affected by the SC/ST community should be rebuilt and rehabilitated. Also, medical and other facilities and security should be provided to the victims with immediate effect. The letter has been written under the banner of the Centre for Social Development (CSD). It is signed on the front page of Suresh Kumar, former Head, Department of African Studies, University of Delhi (DU) and Prof. Kp Singh, Professor, Library Science, DU.
