Lahore: Four more polio cases have been reported in Pakistan. Two cases of the disease have been reported in both Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) areas, and with this the number of polio cases has increased to 119 this year. According to Dawn News, according to a notification issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Islamabad on Friday, new cases of polio have been registered from Sukkur and Tando Allayar districts in Sindh and Tank and Bannu districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Rana Safdar, coordinator of the National Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for polio, has told that there are many reasons for the polio virus to spread throughout the year in 2019. He told the media that "two followup national campaigns are planned in February and April 2020, with efforts to improve regular vaccination coverage, however, collective efforts are necessary at all levels."

119 polio cases have been registered this year against 12 cases in 2018 and only eight cases in 2017. This year's provincial data shows that 83 cases have been registered from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 from Sindh, nine from Balochistan and six from Punjab. In the world, polio cases are coming from just two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
