Srinagar: On the recommendations of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Jammu and Kashmir administration has given compensation of Rs 36 lakh as relief to the families of 12 children who died after consuming 'fake cough syrup' in Udhampur. Officials have given information in this regard on Friday. The NHRC has said that the incident took place at Ramnagar in Udhampur during December 2019 and January 2020.

The NHRC said in a statement that the commission had registered the case on the basis of a complaint dated April 30, 2020. It said that, 'On the recommendations of the National Human Rights Commission, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has finally provided financial assistance of Rs 36 lakh to the families of 12 infants who died after consuming cough syrup, in the investigation. It was found that the medicine was counterfeit.

According to the statement, in response to the commission's notice, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had said that "there was no scope for any negligence on the part of its Drug Control Department, manufacturing of quality drugs is primarily the responsibility of the manufacturing company and the department." Is. Already a formal complaint has been lodged against it in the competent court.
