Indore: Indore district of Madhya Pradesh has once again been hoisted. In fact, Indore has become the cleanest city in the country for the fifth time in a row. This has been cleared by the rehearsals held in Delhi last Friday. Now, today, on Saturday, President Ram Nath Kovind will give Indore the number one city, 12 crores Safai Mitra and 5-star rating award at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. Indore was first placed in the rehearsals and then Surat and Vijayawada. It is also reported that Safai Mitra Indirabai Adiwal will also be honoured today.

Yesterday, Dr Pawan Sharma, Collector Manish Singh, Corporator Pratibha Pal, Additional Commissioner Sandeep Soni, SE Mahesh Sharma attended the rehearsals. Indore is not just number 1. 160 crores had to be spent on waste management here for the first time due to the purchase of vehicles and construction of transfer stations. Now, the expenditure has come down to Rs.50 crores annually. Last year, 90% waste management fee was collected, which was 45 crore. The quality of wet waste is 95%. You will be surprised to know that Indore is now earning Rs.20 crores annually from waste. The list includes income from carbon credit, CNG, compost manure, CND waste and dry waste.

Experts believe that the pace with which Indore is working on waste management will cross the Rs 100 crore mark in the next three years. In Indore, RS 45 crores are being given by the public for waste management. 3.43 crore is being spent on cleaning 137 km of rivers and drains. 1200 tonnes of waste is being disposed of daily. And 11364 Safai Mitras have been placed in Indore who are contributing to keeping Indore clean.
