Ankara: At least 12 people were killed and 438 others were injured in the Izmir city of Turkey on Friday after the massive earthquake hit the nation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave this information in a TV address in Istanbul. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that relief and rescue operations are being carried out to rescue people from the debris of 17 buildings damaged due to the earthquake.

In the city of Izmir, in the western region of Turkey, very strong earthquake tremors were felt and many buildings and other buildings have suffered significant damage. Giving information, the Turkish emergency agency said that earthquake tremors were felt in the city of Izmir and its magnitude was recorded at 6.6 on the Richter scale. According to the US Department of Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake has recorded a magnitude 7.0 on the Richter scale. Turkey and Greece have been affected by this.

The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be located in the Aegear Sea. Experts believe that the possibility of tsunami due to earthquake cannot be ruled out. According to the Turkish presidential office, Erdogan has discussed the earthquake with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis over the phone. Both leaders have wished for the injured to recover soon.
