Ramallah: An Israeli soldier shot and wounded a 12-year-old Palestinian boy during an army raid on a refugee camp in the army-occupied West Bank in September, killing him Monday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

On 28 September, Mahmoud Samodi was shot in the stomach during an army raid in Genin, a Palestinian refugee camp and stronghold.

The Israeli military said the incident took place in September, but the ministry initially reported that the boy was hurt over the weekend. Since then, the ministry has corrected its initial reporting.

According to the Israeli military, a minor who participated in the violent riots and threw stones at security forces is accused of injuring a minor. It said investigators are probing the circumstances of the incident.

Since a wave of attacks against Israelis in the spring that killed 19 people, Israel has been conducting nightly arrest raids across the West Bank. The military claims to have traced some of those attackers to Genin.

Since 2015, more than 100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, making it the deadliest year in the occupied territory.
According to the Israeli military, most of those killed were stone throwers or terrorists who put soldiers at risk.

But during Israel's months-long operation, several civilians, including a veteran journalist and a lawyer, have also been killed, who allegedly walked recklessly into the war zone. Additionally, local youths who took to the streets after invading their neighborhood have been killed.

According to Israel, the goal of the arrest raid is to break the terrorist network. According to Palestinians, who want those areas as a sovereign state, Israeli forces have been occupying Palestinian-claimed territory for 55 years.

Israeli troops also entered the Shuafat refugee camp on Monday, searching homes and shops for a Palestinian believed to be responsible for the weekend killing of an Israeli soldier. Many people living in the camp threw stones at the soldiers using tear gas.

The shooting took place on Saturday night at a checkpoint near the camp in East Jerusalem. The police had informed at that time that the attacker got out of a car and fled to the camp after shooting a woman constable and a security guard. The 19-year-old woman was declared brought dead by the army in the early hours of Sunday.
