Kathmandu: Elephant is one such species of the world which people also like very much. Elephants live their lives with great happiness and never forget anything. News has just been received that now elephants are not liking the climate of Nepal. There has been an increase of 120 in the number of elephants in Uttar Pradesh in about two and a half years. Its number has increased to 352 in the forests of UP adjacent to Nepal and Uttarakhand. It is considered a good sign in terms of forest, environment, and wildlife. This is another good news after the increase in forest cover in Uttar Pradesh. Elephants were counted simultaneously on 6, 7 and 8 June in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The intention behind this was that the same elephant should not be counted in both places. According to the report of the Forest and Wildlife Department, 149 elephants were found in the forests of Dudhwa and Katarniaghat adjoining Nepal.

According to the information, 18 elephants were found in the Shivalik forests adjoining Uttarakhand, 82 in Amangarh, and 103 in Najibabad (Bijnor). In this way, some of its numbers have come up around 352. According to the calculation done in the first year 2017, the number of elephants in Uttar Pradesh was 232. According to officials of the Forest and Wildlife Department, elephants found in Uttar Pradesh are usually migratory. It comes to UP from Nepal or Uttarakhand. It is also being said that earlier elephant used to come back for two-four months in the sugarcane season, but here they are staying more in UP for few years. There are a large number of elephants in the forests of UP adjacent to Nepal, who are not returning to Nepal now. The reason for this is the construction of the road towards Nepal on the Indo-Nepal border and the destruction of forests on a large scale. Therefore their number in Dudhwa and Katarniaghat adjoining Nepal is quite good.

This is how the calculation is done: Elephants require a minimum of 200 liters of water in a day. Calculation time is kept in summer when water spaces are limited. Elephants visit the big reservoirs in the forest once a day. Therefore, the Forest Department team is present near these reservoirs for calculation.
