New Delhi: Tauktae storm has wreaked havoc in several states of India. The storm has so far killed 122 people. Of these, 37 were present in the ship Barge P-305, which sank. It was submerged 35 miles (56.32 km) off the coast of Mumbai. The Home Ministry cell, which looks after disaster management, said about 2.6 lakh people from 6 states were safely evacuated from the endangered coastal areas.

Out of these, 2.38 lakh people are from Gujarat, while the remaining 22,000 are from other 5 states. All of them have been kept in relief camps. Gujarat has been the worst hit by the storm with 47 deaths. Tauktae storm first reached Gir Somnath. 77,000 electric poles were broken, while more than 70,000 trees were uprooted. This led to power outages and road jams in many areas.

The Gujarat Disaster Management Department said that 368 government buildings in the state have been damaged by the storm. The storm also destroyed 1143 km of road in Gujarat. Tauktae also destroyed 356 kilometres of road in Kerala and 58 kilometres in Karnataka. In Gujarat, 130 corona hospitals were damaged by Tauktae, out of which 98 have been repaired and recommissioned.
