Palghar: A fire broke out at a Covid hospital in Virar area of Palghar district of Maharashtra this morning. The fire broke out in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital which killed 13 patients. In the entire case, Corona Control Room, Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation said, "The incident took place on the second floor of the hospital at around 3:30 pm. As soon as the fire was reported, three fire tenders of Virar Fire Brigade rushed to the spot to douse it. The fire is said to have been extinguished by 5:20 am. The incident created panic in the hospital and soon all the covid patients are being shifted to nearby hospitals. It is yet to be ascertained what caused the fire.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident. He has given his approval to provide ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. On the other hand, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief over the deaths in a fire at Covid Hospital in Palghar, Maharashtra. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

On the other hand, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said, "Deeply saddened by the fire incident at Vijay Vallabh Covid Hospital in Virar. My thoughts are with the families of those killed in the accident. The whole incident should be investigated. We all know that this is the second major incident in a week with covid patients in Maharashtra. In fact, earlier, more than 20 covid-19 patients were killed when an oxygen tanker leaked outside Dr. Zakir Hussain Hospital in Nashik, Maharashtra.
