Islamabad: A 1300-year-old Hindu temple has been found in the Swat district of Pakistan's northwestern region. Archaeological experts from Pakistan and Italy have discovered this temple. This temple was found during excavation among the hills of Barikot Ghandai. Fazle Khaliq of the Archaeological Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has told that this temple belongs to Lord Vishnu.

It is being claimed that this temple was built 1300 years ago during the Hindu royal period. Hindu Shahi or Kabul Shahi (850-1026 AD) was a Hindu dynasty, which ruled in Kabul Valley (eastern Afghanistan), Gandhar (modern Pakistan) and present North-West India. Archaeologists have also found the camp near the temple and minarets for a guard. Experts associated with the excavation have also found a pool of water near the temple. It is being claimed that devotees used to bathe there before worshipping in the temple. Khaliq also said that for the first time signs of Hindu imperial period have been found in the area.

President of Italy's Archaeological Mission, Dr Luca said that this is the first temple of Gandhar civilization found in Swat district. There are many places of Buddhism in Swat district too. There are about 20 such places in Swat district where a large number of tourists visit every year.
