So far, at least 14 countries have officially registered protests against India. India, however, has made it clear that Sharma's statement does not reflect the views of the government. The BJP has taken action against the spokesperson and suspended him from the party, and Nupur Sharma has also apologised for his statement.

Among the Islamic countries that have lodged a protest against India over Nupur Sharma's statement are Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Jordan, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Maldives, Libya, Indonesia and Pakistan. At the same time, in India too, the opposition parties are constantly raising their voice against the BJP spokesperson. There are demands to arrest Sharma.

India gave a befitting reply to the OIC:-

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, in a reply to the OIC, said, "We have seen the statements made by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation regarding India. The Government of India rejects the wrong and narrow-minded statements of the OIC Secretariat.'' The Government of India gives the highest respect to all religions. Arindam Bagchi further said, "Objectionable tweets and statements insulting a religious personality were made by some people. These do not in any way reflect the views of the Government of India. The concerned bodies have already taken strict action against these people.''

Arindam Bagchi has said, "It is said that the OIC Secretariat has once again preferred to make motivated, confusing and mischievous remarks. It only reflects the divisive agenda being run at the behest of selfishness. Bagchi further said, "We appeal to the OIC Secretariat to abandon its communal outlook and respect all religions.''
