In West Bengal's Krishnagar, the court awarded Life imprisonment to 14 persons for killing a couple in 2008. Justice Gour Sundar Bandyopadhyay of Krishnagar fast track third Court pronounced the sentence.
On Road, the man was killed while his wife was killed with a sharp weapon at the couple's residence.
The Public Prosecutor Paresh Paul as per the source said that in addition to life imprisonment, the court fined them Rs 10,000 each. Fifty per cent of the fine would be given to the victims' family.
On November 6, 2008, Ashok Das (48) of Adityapur under the jurisdiction of Krishnaganj police station in Nadia was going to Duttaphulia on a van rickshaw. His son Mithun was with him. When they had reached Laxmidanga crossing, a few blocked the road. They killed Ashok with a sharp weapon. They also chased Mithun who managed to run away.
The complaint was lodged in the matter after which 14 persons were found guilty and awarded life imprisonment.
