165 birds found dead in Dehradun, fear of bird flu stirred up

Dehradun: The bodies of 165 birds have been recovered in a single day in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, raising concerns with the forest department as well as the animal husbandry department. Samples of five birds have been sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly. However, the sample report sent four days ago has not yet been reported.

Yesterday, 162 crows, two pigeons, and an eagle were found dead in Dehradun. The forest department reported the death of a large number of crows in The Bombay Garden of Doon. The team arrived on the spot and investigated after thinking, divisional forest officer Rajiv Dhiman informed that the bodies of about 121 crows were recovered from the bagh. The risk of bird flu (avian influenza) in the country is increasing day by day. So far, bird flu has spread to nine regions of the country. These states are Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.

The central government has directed zoo management to send reports every day to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) under the Environment Ministry. This has to be done until the area is declared disease-free. CZA issued an office memorandum directing the management of zoos to monitor and strengthen the management of bird dumps.
