In Maharashtra, 17 lakh government employees are going on a 3-day strike from today. Milind Sardeshmukh, President of Maharashtra State Employees Association (MSEO) said that all employees of the taluka level will be involved in the strike, which will include employees of academic and medical institutions and other departments. These employees are going on strike in support of other demands including implementing the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.

As a result of the strike, work in all government offices at Headquarters, Ministry, Collectorate, Tehsil and Taluka level can be affected. Not only this, the workings will also be affected by educational institutions, medical and other related institutions.

The Employee leader said that the Maharashtra Gazetted Officer Federation will also be involved in the strike because they expect that their demands will be fulfilled.  Deshmukh told the media that despite the assurances of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he is silent on their demands, including the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission report, which will be effective from January 1, 2019.

The government is delaying the matter saying that it is awaiting the report of the KP Bakhshi Committee on this matter because the burden of debt burden on implementing the recommendations of the Pay Commission will result in an additional burden of Rs 21,000 crore on the state.
