Rain continuously wreaking havoc! Opening 18 gates of Manjara Dam increased flood risk in many villages

Mumbai: Rain has wreaked havoc in Maharashtra at present. The water level has risen due to heavy rains in the areas adjoining the Manjara dam and officials have opened all 18 gates of the dam to drain water. Meanwhile, the opening of dam gates has increased the risk of floods in some villages of the Beed district. With this, an alert has been sounded in some nearby districts. According to information received from the authorities, several families from the affected villages have been shifted to safer places and no damage has been reported so far.

According to reports, Manjara and Majalgaon dams in the Beed district were inundated due to heavy rains last Monday night. In this case, officials say that the local administration opened all the 18 gates of Manjara dam and 11 gates of Majalgaon dam in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving 78,397 cusecs and 80,534 cusecs of water released. On the other hand, Ambajogai Tehsildar Vipin Patil said that the release of water from the Manjara dam has flooded the villages of Kaj and Ambajogai talukas of Beed district.

Villages like Isthala, Apegaon, Tadola, Kopra, Anjanpur, Deora, Tat Borgaon, Akola (all in Ambajogai taluka) on the banks of River Manjara are reportedly facing floods and waterlogging. On the other hand, the Office of The Majalgaon Irrigation Department has also written to the district magistrates of Beed, Parbhani and Nanded asking them to issue alerts in the villages along the Sindhfana and Godavari rivers in their respective areas. The water is said to have risen by about three feet and the work of taking residents to safer places has started from 4 am today i.e.
