18 killed in Kerala aircraft incident, Governor-Chief Minister visits Kozhikode Hospital

While landing an Air India Express plane at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode, Kerala, it slipped and fell into a ditch twenty-five feet. The incident was so horrific that the plane split into two. 18 people, including 2 pilots have lost their lives in the accident. There were 191 passengers in the airplane. After this, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and CM Pinarayi Vijayan visited Kozhikode Medical College. Where the injured passengers are admitted in the accident. According to DGCA officials, his Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) has been recovered from the plane. The voice recorder of the cockpit has been taken out, they will be brought to Delhi for further investigation.

Foreign state minister V Muralitharan also visited the Kozhikode airport. In addition, CISF Special Director General MA Ganapathi said that more than forty CISF personnel, quick response teams and the Chief Airport Security Officer reached the ground floor and started evacuation with the Airports Authority of India. US Ambassador to the country Ken Juster has expressed sorrow over the incident and expressed condolences to the victims. Foreign Minister V Muralitharan has reached Kozhikode.

To provide assistance to all the passengers and their family members, 2 special relief flights have been arranged from Delhi and Mumbai. The AAIB, DGCA and Flight Safety Department have reached to investigate the incident. Apart from this, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan reached Karipur.
