Guwahati: The Assam Police has intensified action in the cases of child marriage in the state from today i.e. Friday (February 3). Police have arrested 1800 people so far. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has given information about this. Earlier, Assam CM Himanta Biswa had told that 4004 cases have been registered in the state regarding child marriage. 

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (February 2) told that his government is determined to end child marriage in the state. Not only this, he had said that action in these cases would be started from February 3. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that Assam Police has registered 4004 cases of child marriage in the state. Police action will start from 3rd February. 

He said that I request everyone's cooperation. In fact, last month itself the Assam cabinet decided to initiate action against child marriage and sought the cooperation of all stakeholders in these matters. Not only this, the government has also approved a proposal to take action under the POCSO Act against men who marry girls below the age of 14 years.
