18th Asian Games: Neeraj Chopra to be India's flag bearer

New Delhi [India], August 10 (NT): Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been named as the flag bearer for the Indian contingent by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) at the upcoming 18th edition of the Asian Games. Neeraj Chopra recently won a gold medal in Sottevile Athletics meet in France.

The announcement was made on Friday in the presence of Rajyavardhan Rathore, Minister of State (I/C) Youth Affairs and Sports during the send-off ceremony of the Indian contingent here at Hyatt hotel.

Chopra is currently in Finland, He thanked the IOA for nominating him to name as India's flag bearer at the games.

"It is a matter of great pride for me. I want to thank IOA for this. I am feeling very excited and happy," he said.

Rajyavardhan Rathore was the chief guest in the event wished good luck the athletes and officials ahead of the Asian Games.

 Worth mention here a total of 572 athletes will participate in the event in 36 different sports categories. The contingent will be led by Chef de Mission Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

On a related note, Asian Games are slated to be held from August 18 to September 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. (NT)
