New Delhi: It has been a massive sigh of relief for Sikh leaders post former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was found guilty in the 194 anti-Sikh riots case and ahead of his surrender today at Delhi’s Karkardooma Court. However, the Sikh leaders have vowed to keep on fighting till all accused are brought to justice by the law and order.
Worth mention here Kumar has been awarded a life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court in the case, surrendered before the Karkardooma Court on Monday. The court ordered that Kumar be sent to Mandoli jail in northeast Delhi.
Manjit Singh GK, president of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee stated Kumar’s captivity would encourage other witnesses also come out and talk their account of the incident, news agency PTI reported.
It may be noted that on December 17, the Delhi High Court had overturned the release granted to Kumar by a trial court and awarded him a life sentence and a fine of Rs 5 lakh in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Before this two convicts in the case – Mahender Yadav and Kishan Khokhar – too surrendered at Karkardooma Court.
The case related to killing of five members of a Sikh family in Delhi Cantonment during 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the consequences of the murder of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
