Dr. Sameer Sharma, a 1985 batch IAS, presently the Director General of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs at the Centre, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh. His appointment as the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh has become a topic of discussion despite being in the post. The incumbent Chief Secretary Adityanath Das will retire on the 30th of this month, already on an extension of three months. Present CS Adityanath Das (1987 batch) is two years junior to Sameer Sharma.

Sameer Sharma is also expected to retire in two months, at the end of November and senior officials had no clue as to why he chose the state cadre despite his short time. However, the state government can demand from the Center to extend his term. Dr. Sameer Sharma is a scholar-administrator who belongs to the 1985 batch of IAS. and has vast experience in public and corporate affairs. He has experience of more than 37 years. He has served in almost all the positions in the urban area under the state and central government.

Worked as Municipal Commissioner of Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Cities. Was responsible for the financial turnaround of Hyderabad Municipal Corporations. He was India's Smart Cities Mission Director in Vijayawada and Hyderabad. He holds a master's degree in community planning and a doctorate from the United States. In the master's course he was declared an outstanding graduate student. He was the Chairman of the committees constituted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Dr. Sharma has also obtained D. Litt from Shankaracharya University, Kanchi in terms of formulation of National Urban Policy Framework as well as Finance Policy on Value Capture.
