2 terrorists, jawan killed in encounter in Kashmir’s Pulwama

Dalipora(Pulwama) encounter: A jawan was martyred and two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces began in the Dalipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama on Thursday morning. As of now, two terrorists are holed up in a house in the area. A fierce gun battle ensued after security forces launched an operation to eliminate the terrorists. One civilian and two jawans were also injured during the encounter who have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The exchange of fire reportedly began in the wee hours on The firing started after CASO launched by a joint team of army and police in the area near District Police Lines near the main town. The joint team of forces intensified the search. Terrorists also opened fire, leading to an encounter. On May 6, militants hurled grenades at a polling station in Pulwama when voting was underway for the Anantnag constituency. In the anti-terror operations undertaken by the security forces, 253 terrorists were killed in the year 2018, against 213, 150 and 108 in 2017, 2016 and 2015 respectively.

The security set up in the state has been on a state of heightened alertness following the February 14 Pulwama attack which resulted in the death of 40 CRPF personnel. Earlier on Sunday, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.
