2018 Youth Olympic Games: 15-year-old weightlifter, Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins a maiden GOLD Medal for India

India showing tremendous performance won their first gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the capital city Buenos Aires, Argentina. Yes, Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifting 150kg on his last attempt for a combined 274kg clichéd gold win for the nation. Worth mention here This is India’s maiden gold medal at the Youth Olympics.

Rajyavardhan Rathore, taking twitter handle shared this awesome news tweeted, “Historic GOLD for Jeremy!In a superb show of strength by our 15 year-old weightlifter  Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins a GOLD Medal in the Men’s 62 kg category at @buenosaires2018. CONGRATS young man, on India’s 1st EVER Gold at #YouthOlympics. “

In Men’s 62kg Group A weightlifting, Jeremy marked successful attempts of 120kg and 124kg in snatch and 142kg and 150kg in clean & jerk. He delivered his best successful attempts of 124kg in snatch and 150kg in clean & jerk for a combined 274kg winning the gold medal. He is 15-year-old. He defeated Toptas Caner of Turkey who settled for the silver medal for a combined lift of 263kg. On a related note  Estiven Jose Manjarres of Colombia grabbed the bronze medal with 260kg.

Worth mention here in the two editions prior to this, India’s delivering average performance clinched two silver medals in the 2014 Youth Olympics at Nanjing, China.

Earlier India had won three silver medals with Tushar Mane (10m Air Rifle), Tababi Devi (44kg Judo) and Mehuli Ghosh (10m Air Rifle) .This time India are represented by 46 athletes in the prominent sport event. This is the largest contingent at the third Youth Olympic Games across 13 disciplines.
