Prices for the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 in India range from Rs 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). After more than two years, the Alto is once again known as the K10; the original K10 was withdrawn with the switch to BS6 emission standards. The third-generation Alto K10 has more space than its forerunner, a fully new exterior and interior style, and the model's 1.0-litre gasoline engine.
The new Alto K10 seems more in line with the current Celerio than its predecessor did in terms of design. It has considerably increased in size and is now built on Maruti's Heartect platform, which supports a wide range of models from the Celerio to the Ertiga. The new Alto K10 is 45mm taller and 85mm longer than the Alto 800 at 3,530mm in length, 1,490mm in width, and 1,520mm in height. Additionally, the wheelbase has increased by 20mm to 2,380mm. However, the breadth is unchanged from the Alto 800.
The new Alto K10 has a rounder and slightly more upright overall form than its predecessor. It has a big hexagonal grille with a mesh-patterned air intake and wide sweptback halogen headlamps up front, which together resemble a laughing emoji. Although there are no facilities for fog lamps or LED DRLs, the front bumper has a few angular creases at the sides and a striking black trim element at the front.
In comparison to its predecessor, the new Alto K10 has a more pronounced shoulder line and a few extra character lines on the sides. However, the glasshouse's design hasn't changed much, and the turn signals are still fixed to the front fenders. Additionally, the new Alto K10 has lift-up door handles, just like the Celerio. The Alto K10 comes with 13-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers as standard equipment.
However, the rear-end design is quite simple and, at first impression, resembles the Celerio quite a bit. However, if you look closely, you'll see that the rear bumper closely resembles the front one's design and the taillights differ somewhat. Similar to its predecessor, it is still without a rear wash/wiper.
The interior of the new Alto K10 has been totally remodelled, just as the outside. The dual-tone colour design of the previous model has been replaced with an all-black interior theme, and the dashboard is now more upright. A brand-new 7.0-inch touchscreen entertainment system that has similarities with the Celerio, S-Presso, commands centre stage on the dashboard and is adorned with two silver accents on either side.
It's interesting to note that the side AC vents and a large portion of the switchgear, including the steering wheel, control stalks, interior door handles, and central AC vents, are all based on the Celerio. Even the power window buttons are placed in a similar location to the Celerio and S-Presso. The Alto is the only vehicle with a digital instrument cluster, though.
The new Alto K10 comes with manual air conditioning, a 4-speaker music system, steering-mounted controls, a 7-inch Smart Play infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and steering-mounted controls. It has dual front airbags, ABS, and front seat belt pretensioners for safety. Additionally, Maruti is providing the Glinto and Impacto accessory packages. Both accessory packages provide a number of exterior visual modifications, with the former emphasising chrome and the latter featuring elements in contrast orange.
The 1.0-liter, three-cylinder K10C petrol engine from Maruti, which also powers the Celerio and S-Presso, is now the engine that powers the new Alto K10. Its output is 67 horsepower and 89 Nm of peak torque. Either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox is included with the engine.
The new Alto K10 uses less fuel than its predecessor thanks to dual-jet technology and an idle start/stop function. For manual models and 24.90 kpl for automatic versions, respectively, are the claimed fuel economy figures from Maruti.
Please take note that Maruti's tried-and-true 48-horsepower, 800 cc petrol engine will not be available for the new Alto; instead, it will be reserved for the older-generation vehicle, which will continue to be sold alongside the new model. At a later time, it's anticipated that the new Alto will be available with a factory-installed CNG version of the 1.0-liter K10C engine.
