Kolkata: Just days after BJP MLA Soumen Roy returned to Trinamool Congress (TMC), TMC leader Mukul Roy has claimed that several BJP MLAs are going to join TMC in the near future. He said 24 MLA who wish to work with Mamata Banerjee are in touch with her. Roy said there is a long line of MLAs and leaders who want to come to TMC.

In June this year, Mukul Roy himself quit the BJP and suppressed the TMC. He had gone to the BJP from TMC four years ago. However, he once again accepted Mamata Banerjee's leadership after the BJP's defeat in the assembly elections. Four BJP MLA including Soumen Roy, Bishwajit Das, and Tanmay Ghosh have joined the TMC in the last four weeks. More importantly, all of them are considered close to Mukul Roy and all of them joined the BJP because of Mukul Roy before the 2021 assembly elections.

Soumen Roy joined the party only last week in the presence of Partha Chatterjee. Earlier, on August 30, Tanmay Ghosh, MLA from Bishnupur, had returned to the TMC. The very next day, BJP MLA Bishwajit Das of Bagda assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district had also suppressed the TMC. With Soumen Roy joining the TMC, the number of BJP MLAs in the Bengal Assembly has come down to 71.
