Patna: The death toll due to consumption of poisonous liquor has been steadily increasing in the Gopalganj and West Champaran districts of Bihar in the last two days. While 8 people died in Champaran village Bettiah last Thursday, 16 people were reportedly died in Gopalganj. At the same time, it is being reported that the administration of both districts has not confirmed the cause of death. This is the third incident of death due to drinking in north Bihar in the last 10 days. Let me tell you that Bihar minister Janak Ram visited Gopalganj on this occasion. "I have visited the houses of those who allegedly died due to consumption of spurious liquor," he said in a statement. It could be a conspiracy to defame the NDA government.

At the same time, police say that some people have been cremated by their families. Four people reportedly died during treatment last Thursday and two succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital. On the other hand, Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar has said, "In the last two days, some people have died under mysterious circumstances in Muhammadpur village of the district. The cause of death cannot be confirmed till the post mortem report arrives. Three teams are currently investigating the matter.''

Let me also tell you that between last Tuesday and Wednesday, the police have arrested four persons in connection with the incident. More than 20 people belonged to the Scheduled Castes who allegedly consumed spurious liquor being sold by local traders in the locality. All of them have been identified. However, the Champaran administration is yet to confirm the cause of death. There are also reports that from January to October 31 this year, nearly 70 people have died and many people were blinded in Nawada, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Siwan and Rohtas districts due to consumption of spurious liquor.
