New Delhi: There is some relief at present after the corona infection wreaked havoc since last year. Amidst fears of a third wave of covid, a very small number of infection cases are coming to light every day, which is giving relief. However, with the proper passage of festivals, marriages across the country are now under threat of corona. According to an estimate by traders, about 2.5 million marriages will take place across the country in the year starting November 14 this year. Out of which 1.5 lakh marriages are likely to take place in Delhi alone. So wedding crowds can become bearers of corona infection.

Praveen Khandelwal, National General Secretary, Confederation of All India Traders, says that encouraged by the tremendous trade during the festive season of Deepawali, traders across the country, including Delhi, are now gearing up for the sale of the wedding season and it is expected that the first phase of one-month marriages will begin from Dev Uthan Ekadashi on November 14 to December 13. It is estimated to have about 25 lakh weddings across the country and will have a turnover of over Rs 3 lakh crore this season. A trade of 50,000 crore rupees is expected in Delhi alone.

Khandelwal says that in the last two years, marriages took place at a very small level due to the covid infection and the very small number of marriages and the many restrictions imposed by the government. The number of guests at these weddings was also very small. People organized events in the presence of very few members, but this time large events are expected as corona cases are very low and the risk of covid appears to be avoided. People are preparing to do big gatherings this time.
