New Delhi: The Railway Ministry is working on a plan for a massive reshuffle of the Railways. The focus of the Ministry is on reducing the burden of expenditure on railways. In this link, the Ministry has formulated a plan to reduce the number of Railway Board officials. 25 per cent of high-post officers will be transferred to various zones of the Railways. After this retrenchment, the number of officers on the Board will come down from 200 to 150. Under the scheme, the Director and its high-post officers will be transferred to the Zone.

The Ministry of Railways plans to reduce the number of officers posted in the Railway Board to enhance the efficiency of various zones. For a long time, it was believed that the number of people working on the Railway Board was high. The Director-class officers and executive directors do the same thing. In such a case, senior officers may be transferred to enhance efficiency in various zones.

According to railway sources, the decision will be taken soon as the scheme is included in the 100-day agenda of the Railways. The recommendation was made by the Bibek Debroy Committee for the restructuring of the Railway Board. Railway officials also say that for a long time it is felt that there is a lot of officers working on the Railway Board. This adversely affects the efficiency of the Railways. If these officers are transferred to other zones, the Railways will develop in better coordination.
