CHENNAI: Starting at 5 pm on Wednesday, the 25-hour countdown for the launch of the Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) carrying three Singapore satellites will commence. PSLV-C53/DS-EO is the codename for the mission.

Three satellites, including the 155 kg NeuSAR and the 365 kg DS-EO satellites constructed by the South Korean company Starec Initiative for Singapore, will be carried by the Indian rocket. A 2.8 kilogramme Scoob-1 spacecraft from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, is the third satellite.

In the event of a successful launch, the PSLV rocket will have put 345 foreign satellites from 36 different countries into orbit since 1999. The PSLV-C53 rocket is anticipated to launch from the second launch pad at the Sriharikota rocket port at 6 p.m. on June 30, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Six payloads, including two from Indian space start-ups Digantara and Dhruva Aerospace, will employ the rocket's fourth and final stage, which will be used as an orbital platform by the Indian space agency, ISRO.

After the satellites have been separated, the mission aims to show how the launch vehicle's discarded upper stage may be used as a stable platform for research payloads.
