New corona cases in Andaman and Nicobar raises concern

With 27 new corona cases in andaman and nicobar islands, the number of infected people has gone up to 7,070. A health ministry official informed about the same on Friday. He said that the number of deaths due to infection in the last 24 hours has remained at 119. He said that out of 27 new cases, 22 were confirmed amidst the identification of people exposed to the infected patient while five passengers have been confirmed infection at the airport. The official said all passengers arriving by plane are required to undergo rapid antigen test (RAT) before entering the archipelago. The official said the number of recoverers has gone up to 6,820 with 39 more people recovering.

At present, 131 patients are undergoing treatment in the Union Territory, out of which 124 are from South Andaman district and 7 from North and Central Andaman districts. He said the Nicobar district of the islands has been freed from infection. The administration said that so far 3,88,486 samples have been tested for Covid-19 and the infection rate is 1.82 per cent.

A total of 1,09,844 people have been given the first dose of corona anti-virus vaccine while 17,385 people have been given both doses of vaccine. The total population of the Union Territory is 4 lakh. Meanwhile, Information, Publicity and Tourism Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration S K Singh reiterated the need to follow the covid-19 guidelines for the fight against the epidemic at a press conference on Thursday. He said strict checks are going to be conducted against those who do not follow the guidelines of corona virus. He said the police had imposed penalty on 147 people who did not follow the Covid-19 rules on Wednesday.
