NEW DELHI: The opposition party Congress's gala over the 2G judgment may be an annoyance by the CBI special court's inspection that key officials in the Manmohan Singh PMO — secretary Pulok Chatterjee and principal secretary TKA Nair — concealed the significant and divisive part of A Raja's note to Singh.

Special judge O P Saini of CBI court stated A Raja, the DMK candidate in the UPA government, had passed the words to Singh what he wished-for to do but PMO officials presented a biased outlook to the then PM. "If the words 'Wants PMO to be at arm's length' are read in the context of the case, it is much-obvious that they are triggered at officials of the PMO and not at A Raja," the judge asserted.’

The 'arm's length' made a note by BVR Subramaniam, then private secretary to the PM, had said, "PM wants this informally shared with the department... Does not want a formal communication and wants PMO to be at arm's length please."

The memo was dated January 23, 2008, after 15 days of the 2G spectrum licenses were handed out.

Quoting cross-examination of the CBI's inquiry officer Vivek Priyadarshi and the 2008 note, the court stated Chatterjee strutted to the then telecom secretary Siddharth Behura and "gave (a) the go-ahead to DoT", but later on wanted to shift the charge on A Raja.

The Special court noticed that there was no evidence to advocate the letter written by Raja on November 2, 2007, was examined by South Block.
