3 arrested for sex detection activities in decoy operation

On Saturday, three persons were held for alleged involvement in sex selection activities in a decoy operation. The three accused, including a woman, were conducting these activities by health department's pre-conception pre-natal diagnostic technique (PCPNDT) cell in Gujarat's Himmatnagar.

According to the authorities, from the past few days, the PCPNDT cell was tracing these activities of an agent in Udaipur. The state appropriate authority from PCPNDt said that after the verification on the tip-off, his team sent bogus customers to the agent. The bogus client who was sent to the agent was a pregnant woman. The women, in front of the agent, expressed her willingness to undergo sex selection test. She showed her desperate desire to know the sex of the fetus. Hence, on looking her willingness, the agent agreed to undergo the test and demanded Rs 50,000 from the pregnant women.

The PCPNDT cell officials said that the pregnant woman, who was an undercover agent, reached Udai Pole and there she met the agent Sabir. The agent escorted the pregnant woman to Himmat Nagar where PCPNDT cell team followed them.

The Officials, according to the TOI, proclaimed that the agent took her to Khushboo Diagnostic Centre in Himmat Nagar. In the clinic, doctor Mahesh Parmar conducted the test on the pregnant woman. The doctor then supposedly revealed the sex of the fetus. The PCPNDT cell officials who were following both the agent and the women immediately conducted the raid at the center. But, according to the sources, the authorities failed to arrest the accused doctor.

According to the police officials, the cell authorities managed to capture three persons who are identified as agents. The three arrested includes Sabir and his relatives Shamin and Farukh. All of the three were working at the center for supposedly helping clients to get the sex-selective test done.

PCPNDT cell officials declared that they have collected Rs 25,000 from the possession. Besides, the rest of Rs 25,000 was taken away by the doctor who managed to flee. The PCPNDT cell captured equipment and documents at the center for the further investigation. It was the 34th undercover operation carried by the PCPNDT cell outside the state among total 116 decoy operations carried till date in the state by the health department's PCPNDT cell.
