New Delhi: There is big news for Delhiites. In fact, the Delhi Government has decided to end registration of diesel vehicles that have completed 10 years from January 1 or the period will be completed on January 1, 2022. As per the recent information received, the decision is being taken by the Delhi government following the order of the National Green Tribunal. The order is said to have been issued by the transport department this week. As per that order, NOC will be issued to the owners of these trains so that they can deregister them at some other place also, though this NOC will not be for vehicles that have completed 15 years.

The Supreme Court had on October 29, 2018, ordered a ban on 15-year-old petrol vehicles and 10-year-old diesel trains in Delhi. Earlier in 2014, the NGT had ordered that vehicles more than 15 years old should not be given parking space in public places. Now, recently, a Delhi government official said, "We are taking action against old diesel vehicles. About 1 lakh such vehicles have been registered so far. Now, from 1st January 2022, registration of all such trains will be terminated strictly. According to him, 1 lakh have been banned so far and at present, there are 2 lakh more trains which are at least 10 years old. This means that 3 lakh diesel vehicles will be banned from plying on Delhi roads from the new year.

The official also said, "People have been informed about this by issuing continuous notices from the transport department. At the same time, he said, "As per the directions of the department, 15-year-old diesel vehicles and 10-year-old petrol trains will not be able to ply in Delhi. The order has been issued under the scraping policy. Officials also say that the number of overage trains in Delhi is close to 38 lakh and out of this 3 lakh are diesel vehicles which have become more than 10 years old.''
