Ramallah: Three Palestinians were executed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank early Thursday, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The refugee camp and city of Jenin in the northern West Bank were the targets of military raids. Israeli raids have become more frequent in recent months in these areas, which are strongholds of Palestinian militants.

Israeli forces and Jenin residents are engaged in "confrontations and violent clashes", according to the official Palestinian news agency.
Social media users are sharing old photos of two of the three Palestinians killed, holding rifles. Israeli forces opened fire on an ambulance in Jenin, according to footage released by Palestinian media.

Palestinian groups in the city called for a nationwide strike to honor the dead and sympathize with their families.

On Wednesday in the vicinity of the West Bank settlement of Ofra, an Israeli soldier shot and killed a Palestinian militant who opened fire on them.

Fighting between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem has killed more than 140 Palestinians this year, making it the deadliest year since 2006.

According to the Israeli military, militant Palestinians have been killed most often. However, youths who threw stones in protest against Israeli army incursions, as well as others who were not involved in the conflict, have also died.

In response to a wave of deadly Palestinian attacks on Israelis in the spring, Israel is conducting daily arrest raids across the West Bank.
The military claims the raids are aimed at breaking up terrorist networks and preventing further attacks, but the Palestinians claim they reinforce Israel's ongoing occupation, which has been in place for 56 years.

Arab attacks in Israel and the occupied West Bank have claimed at least 31 lives this year, according to Israeli figures.
