With the exception of the Economics Prize, the prizes were presented by Swedish industrialist and dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel (1833–1966).

The first prize was awarded in 1901, five years after Nobel's death.

The prizes will be presented on 10 December – the date of Nobel's passing in 1896 – and are worth 10 million kronor (about $900,000) each.
