SRINAGAR: Four policemen, including three Special Police Officers (SPOs), have gone missing in South Kashmir's Shopian on Friday as the leding news agency ANI reported.

“JammuAndKashmir: 3 Special Police Officers (SPOs) and 1 police personnel have gone missing in South Kashmir's Shopian. More details awaited, ANI tweeted.

According to sources, the four cops were most expected abducted by members of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist group.

The move comes a day after Kashmiri human right activists raised concern over growing extremism and terrorist activities in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. A search operation has been launched to trace for the kidnapped people — a police constable, two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and the civilian, according to police sources.

The encounter between security forces and terrorists had started yesterday in the forest area in Sumlar of Bandipora, in Jammu and Kashmir and two terrorists have been killed in the encounter. Operations are still underway.

“PoK has remained a hub of terrorism for decades. Pakistan`s agencies have created terrorists` infrastructure in the area to carry out terrorist activities in other parts of the Kashmir. It has become a launching pad,” said Shaukat Ali Kashmiri, expelled chairman of United Kashmir People`s National Party.

Last month, nine people, whose family members are working in the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army, were kidnapped by militants from Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag and Awantipora in the state.
