The total number of patients has increased to 6,341 after 30 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 9th May, while the death toll in the Union Territory has gone up to 74 after the death of 2 more people. A health department official said on Sunday that 27 of the new cases that emerged in the archipelago were detected amid an investigation into contacts with infected people. In addition, 3 persons who reached the airport were found infected.
People who come by air from other places have to undergo rapid antigen tests before entering the archipelago. It has been learned that the official said that 211 people are now undergoing corona treatment in the Union Territory, out of which 206 are in the South Andaman district and 5 in the North and Central Andaman districts. No one in the Nicobar district is yet in the grip of infection. There are three districts in the Union Territory.
In this regard, they said that 26 more people have recovered after illness, after which the total number of people recovering from infection has gone up to 6,056. While the Andaman and Nicobar administration has tested 3,76,536 samples so far, the infection rate among the test-makers is 1.68 percent. The official said more than 1.10 lakh people have been vaccinated here so far.
