Ayaka Takahashi, who won Japan's first Olympic gold medal in badminton, has retired at the age of thirty. Japanese women's badminton doubles specialist player Takahashi, along with Misaki Matsutomo, defeated Denmark's Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl at the 2016 Rio Olympics to win the gold medal of the women's doubles.

But after the Olympic postponement this year due to Corona infection, now she is not going to play for the medal in the Olympics next year. Ayaka Takahashi has announced that she will retire at the end of the month.

Ayaka Takahashi has said citing the postponement of Olympics due to corona infection that her body cannot last for one more year. At a conference on Wednesday, she said, "I have decided to end my career on 31 August. I have no regrets about this decision. I am proud of my achievements."
