The number of infected persons has gone up to 6,398 after 31 more people were found infected with covid in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 11th May, while the death toll due to 2 more deaths due to infection has gone up to 78. An official of the health court said this on Tuesday.
The official said that the infection in 29 people in the new cases was confirmed amidst tests of people exposed to infected patients and two persons were found infected amid an airport check-up. It is mandatory for passengers coming to the archipelago by plane from other places to undergo a rapid antigen test (RAT).
The official said that at present 195 patients are under treatment in the Union Territory out of which 188 patients are from South Andaman district and 7 from North and Central Andaman districts. No covid-19 case has been reported in the Nicobar district so far. The infection has caused 37 people to recover from the infection, raising the number of recoverers to 6,125. The Andaman and Nicobar administration has so far tested 3,77,293 samples and the infection rate is 1.70 percent. The official said 1.12 lakh people have been immunized in the Union Territory so far.
