Bangalore: With the corona epidemic now Black Fungus is also becoming a problem for people. Cases of.black fungus are on the rise in many states. Karnataka, one of the worst affected states by the epidemic, has so far reported 1,370 cases of black fungus, compared to 1,250 in the state on Sunday. Currently 1,292 patients suffering from mucomyosis are undergoing treatment in the state. At the same time, black fungus is now being found in children and two cases have also been registered in rural areas of Karnataka.

The epidemic is also spreading rapidly in many other states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh. Amid the increasing cases of black fungus in Karnataka, Dr. Sujata Rathore, Director, Minto Eye Hospital, said on Monday, "Since May 10, about 126 mucomycosis patients have been treated in our ward, out of which 32 patients have lost their lives and 20 have been discharged after recovery. We have treated 6 patients whose eyesight has not healed".

The highest number of black fungus cases (557) in the state have been registered from Karnataka Urban District, where the number of active cases (patients undergoing treatment) is 540. Second is Dharwad, where the number of active patients is 142. In Karnataka, 1-1 patient has lost his life so far due to black fungus in Bagalkot, Belagvi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, Chikbalpur districts. On the other hand, 2 patients have succumbed to their injuries in Bengaluru Rural, 6 in Bengaluru Urban, 4 in Dakshina Kannada, 14 in Dharwad, 2 in Davangere, 3 in Hassan, 5 in Kalbugadi, 2 in Kolar, 2 in Koppal and 5 in Shivamogga.
