December 2, 1984 is considered to be the dark day of Indian history as on this day a poisonous gas leak occurred from Union Carbide's factory in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It was the most horrific industrial accident in history. The 610 number tank of the Union Carbide factory contained hazardous methyl isocyanite chemicals. Water reached the tank. Due to which the temperature reached 200 degrees.
After which the safety valve of the tank blew with the blast. At that time 42 tons of poisonous gas was leaked. According to government figures, 3,787 people died. due this gas. However, many NGOs claim that the death toll was between 10 and 15 thousand. According to government figures, about 5,58,125 people were affected by the gas. Out of these, there were about 4000 people who were permanently disabled due to the effects of gas, while 38,478 suffered respiratory problems.
The Bhopal gas scandal in December 1984 was the biggest industrial tragedy in the world. At that time Anderson was the head of Union Carbide. He was arrested four days after the incident. But after getting bail, he escaped to America secretly and never again came under the grip of Indian law. In some reports, it was also claimed that the then Congress government was involved in driving Anderson to America.
