Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Aug 14 (NT): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC ( Trinmool Congress) superemo on Tuesday claimed that people who were prior left out of the National Register for Citizens (NRC) draft for Assam are now being harassed as well as 38 lakh Bengali-speaking persons including Hindus and Muslims , were left out of the list.

The West Bengal Chief Minister underscored that out of 40 lakh people who could not make it to this final draft were majorly Hindus.

"The issue isn't about Hindu or Muslim. It's about citizenship. People have been left out because of their language. BJP leaders are thumping their chest to justify this NRC. However, fake cases are being registered against people who have been left out from the NRC list in Assam. They are being harassed. 1200 people are already in a detention camp. Why are 400 companies of security forces being stationed in Assam?" Mamata Banerjee asserted at a press meet here.

Soon after the final NRC draft was released, the Opposition  lashed out the Pm Modi led Center and called the list "politically motivated", in spite of appeals against politicization of the issue.

On August 1, the Mamta Didi had said that the NRC Draft would divide the people and create a civil war-like situation in the nation.

Mamata Banerjee also talked about One Nation One Election as saying, "It may be applicable for local elections. But, if tomorrow there is no stability and central government falls, how will the state government and central government go for elections again every time? Please be practical." (NT)

Yesterday The Election Commission Chief O.P. Rawat also told that “One Nation One Election” only will possible when all parties will agree to execute it.
