K'taka Polls 2018 : 391 out of 2,560 candidates face criminal charges - Report

BENGALURU: Amid ongoing election campaign, an analysis released on Sunday by non-governmental organization Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) showed Some 28% of candidates contesting the May 12 elections from three mainstreams political parties the Congress, BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) are facing criminal cases.

 According to a recent analysis the saffron party BJP has top spot in the table in terms of candidates with criminal cases against them in the upcoming May 12 Karnataka assembly polls. BJP‘s 83 candidates means approximately 37% face criminal cases out of its 224.

The grand old party Congress has second spot in the survey as 59 (26%) of its 220 candidates involved in criminal cases while Janata Dal (Secular)  has third spot as out of the 199 candidates fielded, 41 (20%) face criminal cases.

Analysis shows that the number of candidates with criminal cases has gone up to 391 in 2018, from 334 in the 2013 assembly polls.

The ADR analysis is a crux report drive from on affidavits filed by the candidates. 391 out of Overall,  2,560 candidates have embroiled in criminal cases against themselves.

Karnataka will go to polls on 12 May for 224 constituencies while the resulit will annonce on May 15.
